Early Detection Of Disability For Children Under Five

img005This Early detection manual contains three sections. The first outlines 12 major sign of disability in newborn infants and is meats for traditional birth attendants and community health workers as well as community based rehabilitation ( CBR ) workers. The next section has 6 screening tests for children from 3 months to 5 years of age. The third section is composed of several community education messages for mothers about prevention of disability.

The six basic screening tests have been developed for identification of developmental problems. The tests are based on identification of developmental problems. The tests are based on indentifying key tasks or behavior that the child would be expected to master at each of the 6 ages:

  • The first test is for use with children who are about 3 months old
  • The second test is for use with children who are about 6 months old
  • The third test is for use with children who are about 1 year old
  • The fourth test is for use with children who are about 2 years old
  • The fifth test is for use with children who are about 3 years old
  • The sixth is fo use with children who are about 5 years old
