Mental handicap may also be called mental deficiency, mental retardation, development disability, or intellectual disability. Some children with mental handicap may also be hyperactive and implulsive (acting quickly and without thinking) or they may be withdrawn (always being alone and silent).

Children learn from their mistakes. Children, with and without disabilities, learn that adult respond to their behavior. Children also remember what happens immediately after they do something.

CBR workers will see other children who have severe behavior problems. Although these children may not have a mental handicap, the way in wich they learn new skills and how the CBR worker teaches parents to manage their behavior will be the same.

With this module it is expected that we have addition knowlege about mental handicap and behavior problem. We realized that, without any cooperation from the parents, the CBR workers could do nothing. Therefore, this modue contains some ways in wich do yo work with families and how do you teach new skills to those children.
